Augustus Desiré Waller (18 July 1856 – 11 March 1922) was a British physiologist renowned for his pioneering work in electrocardiography. In 1887, he recorded the first human electrocardiogram using a capillary electrometer. He went on to develop the first practical ECG machine with surface electrodes and presented his work across Europe and America—often using his dog, Jimmy, in live demonstrations.
